Install and User Guide for Darkweb Defend


Step 1:

Please temporarily stop all antivirus software currently running. For Darkweb Defend to install successfully, your antivirus software needs to be disabled so it can access the the administrators side of the operating system.  Darkweb Defend accesses commands on the administrator level to block the Tor Browser, and normally an antivirus will block programs seeking to access these privileges.  After the installation is complete, turn your antivirus software back on.

Step 2:

Unzip the folder you downloaded.  If you are getting errors from Google Chrome, please download with a different browser or click the accept button on your download link.

Open the Darkweb Defend Folder.

Step 3:

Double Click Darkweb Defend Install. A User Access Control window will pop up asking “do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your device?” Click yes on this window to complete installation.

Step 4:

After the install is finished, re-enable your antivirus software. You are now ready to start using Darkweb Defend.

Step 5:

On Darkweb Defends Startup page, enter the email address that you want notifications to be sent as well as the computer name.  The computer name is the nickname you are giving the computer (e.g. Jimmy’s Gaming Computer). Next, enter the username and password.  This is the same username and password that you used during purchase to activate your membership.  The password can be reset by clicking on the Log In tab of the website.  Make sure only you have access to your email!

When you click submit, the program is ready to run.

Step 6:

You will see successful activation after you have entered your credentials and entered your email and computer nickname.

Step 7:

Below is a screenshot of the Darkweb Defend interface.  This should appear after activation. If not, simply click the icon on your Desktop.

Step 8:

If you click on hide the Darkweb Defend will minimize to your system task bar at the bottom of your screen next to the clock.

Using Darkweb Defend

Locking The Darkweb

If you click on the lock button it will start Darkweb Defend and you will need to click hide to minimize it to your system tray.

Unlocking the Darkweb

Click unlock button to stop Darkweb Defend.   Afterward, you will then be prompted for your username and password. If you do not enter the correct information you will not be able to stop Darkweb Defend. You will also be notified by email if this is performed also (WARNING: Unlocking will allow users on your computer to access the Darkweb).

Closing Darkweb Defend

It is important to perform the proper procedure whenever closing Darkweb Defend.  To close Darkweb Defend, you will need to have it unlocked.  Afterwards, you can close the software by clicking the X button in the right hand corner.

Darkweb Defend can still be closed without unlocking or entering the password by going to the Task Manager on your computer (accessed by simultaneously clicking CTRL+ALT+DELETE), but doing this will trigger an email notifying the computer owner.  This procedure ensures that Darkweb Defend cannot be closed without your consent or knowledge.

Email Notifications

You will receive email notifications to the address provided during setup in the following scenarios:

  • Whenever a user attempts to open Tor while Darkweb Defend is in Locked status.
  • Wheenver a user attempts to close Darkweb Defend without inputting the correct username and password.
  • Whenever Darkweb Defend is improperly or forcefully shutdown by the user without first unlocking it.
